Austin-area crafters had the chance to make their own candles during a class Thursday evening at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. Participants dipped wicks into hot wax. It takes about 40 dips to make a candle with a 3/4-inch base. After about 10 dips, the candles must be rolled to "take the wiggle" out so they stand straight.
