As the officers continued searching, family, friends and strangers gathered on Saturday night at Machans Beach's Radar Fields in a "symbolic movement to light the way home" for Declan. "Approximately 30 people, some of Declan's school friends, family friends and also local families from the Machans Beach community, all attended a special ceremony to light a candle," family friend Megan Bayliss said.
"People the Crouch family didn't even know came to offer their support."It is now 19 days since Declan, 13, disappeared from his family home at Machans Beach. Another search at Machans Beach on Saturday, in areas too wet to search before, failed to find any clues into where Declan might be.
Yesterday, detectives from Cairns, with the help of investigators from the State Crime Operations Command were trying to reconstruct Declan's movements in the week before he disappeared. "Police have been very committed to finding Declan and there has been a significant commitment from community services such as SES to police officers," Cairns police Child Protection officer-in-charge Sen-Sgt Glenn Horan said.
"Individual officers have been working through their rest days and have been doing extensive hours beyond their normal working day - these officers are so committed to helping locate Declan - this is a high priority for our region.
"Yesterday, (Saturday) we finalised searches at Machans Beach.
"Police were out talking to as many people as they could over the weekend in the hope it will refresh people's memories and someone will come forward with fresh information.
"We thank the public for all their assistance. However, we are now asking the public to cast their minds back to the week prior to Declan's disappearance on Wednesday, March 9 to see if they remember seeing Declan, particularly in the Machans Beach area.
"If he came into your business, if you passed him walking on the side of the road, saw him on a bus, regardless of how minor it may seem, we'd like to hear from you."Declan is about 170cm tall with a slim build and collar-length brown hair with a purple colour rinse through it, usually worn over his brown eyes.
