How to Make Gel Candles at HomeMaking gel candles is a great project for anyone starting out in this industry. They are easy and cheap to produce, but more importantly they look and smell great. Here is what you will need to get stated:

Candle gel

Hot glue gun

Zinc wicks

Candle fragrance oil

Stainless steel pot

Liquid color dye

Any glass or non flammable container (2 inches or more in diameter) Once you have collected all of these items, you are ready to begin. Gel candles can be made by following these 10 simple steps.

Put a dab of hot glue on the bottom of your container. Attach a wick to the glue and allow to dry. Cut your candle gel into tiny pieces. Place these pieces in your stainless steel pot. Place the pot on your stovetop and set the burner to medium heat. Do not let the temperature surpass 200° Fahrenheit. Use an appropriate thermometer that can withstand the heat if necessary.

Continue to melt the gel until it is as smooth as syrup. Add your dye (a small amount at a time) to the gel and carefully stir it in. Continue this process until you get the color you want.

Add your fragrance oil. 1/3 teaspoon is usually enough for most candles, but you can create a stronger scent by adding more. Place the container in the oven or microwave and heat it to around 155° F. This will prevent the gel from bubbling.

Carefully remove the hot container from the microwave or oven and place it on a level surface. The gel and container should both still be hot at this point. Pour the gel slowly and carefully down the inside wall of the container. Pull the wick up (do not use your fingers if the wax is still too hot) and roll it on a pencil to straighten it. Let the candle harden and trim the wick.
