The five-day workshop on candle making, organised especially to train tribal girls studying in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya ( KGBV) at Senha block under a special project of the Central government, concluded here on Monday. 

 

BPO Prakash Ranjan was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony. Vital information on marketing for both raw materials purchasing to selling of candles was provided to the students on the occasion. "Though we are not asking the girls to start any trade now, but the training would not have been complete without giving them an idea on how to get raw materials and sell the products, if they wish to be self-depended after completing their school education," said Ranjan. 

 

As many as 30 selected students of above 14 years of age from Classes IX and X were imparted candle-making training at the workshop. Trainer Sanju Singh said the girls were trained on making different candles including designer and simple one. 

 

"We have learnt to make make over a dozen kinds of candles including hard wax, flower candle, hut candle, sea candle, chips candle, floating glass candles and simple candles, which was very interesting and useful to also," said Veena Kumari, a trainee. 

 

Another trainee Tabassum Khatoon also said it was a real fun making candles. Ranju Sahu, a physical teacher-cum -warden of the school said the girls come from extremely Naxal-hit areas of Senha block and such a vocational training will be beneficial for their future if they wish to choose this as profession. Accountant Yachna Gupta, Nisha Malini Tirkey, Sunita Kumari, Soni Kumari, Ishwari Prasad and Veena Toppo etc were also present.
