(added few months ago!)

Candles are of different types. They come in different shapes and sizes. But perhaps, the most common and widely used candles are taper candles that are tall and thin. Depending upon the height of the candle, they burn for varying lengths of time. Taper candles are also known as just tapers and are usually available in any candle store. Available in different colors and scents, almost every household likes to have few tapers in case of a power shortage. Making taper candles is no difficult task. There are plenty of ways to make beautiful taper candles.

Taper Candles

The most traditional way of making candles is by dipping. That’s also the most common approach adopted by candle manufacturers. In this method, the wick is repeatedly dipped into a pot of wax. Sometimes, an extra long wick is dipped so that two candles can be made at once. Dipping allows one to have the option of changing colors. One can create a colorful array of layers in a single candle in this method. The most striking part about dipped candles is that they are very smooth.

Sheets of beeswax are also used for producing tapers. In this technique, wick is rolled around with beeswax. Beeswax tapers are celebrated for its scent that is very delicate and appealing. However, compared to conventional taper candles, beeswax candles are relatively more expensive. Taper candles are also made in molds because it allows having mass production. It is also possible to create any shape and design using molds. For instance, one can mold the tapers into star shape or ridge or any other unusual shapes. As far as waxes for tapers are concerned, the choice ranges from soy, paraffin to other cleaner burning waxes. Ideally, one should use candle holders for burning tapers or they run the risk of falling down or creating mess.
